Message from the chairmen
This conference is organised for the second time in Latvia,
but for the first time in the capital Riga. There are three reasons to
justify this choice.
Firstly it is well known that Latvian scientists are
considered as a reference in the world in the magneto-hydrodynamics topics
as well as for the fundamental aspects and applied aspects.
Secondly the scientists from IPUL (Institute of
Physique of the University of Latvia) are members of the European project
Space Trips devoted to the production of electricity in Space. This project
regroups 4 countries, French, Latvia, Germany and Italy and 6 structures as
CNRS (French organism of researches) AREVA TA the big French company for
nuclear application, Hekyom, the start up company which is developing thermo
acoustic technology, HZDR the well known MHD laboratory of Dresden, and
Thales Alenia Space Italy which is the only European company of the Consortium working exclusively on space applications. This project has also for objective the dissemination of knowledge and one of the aspects of this task concerns the organisation in the frame of the conference, of a special session for space applications and of a summer school in this field.
Thirdly in 2014 Riga will be the cultural capital of Europe and the organisation of such manifestation will be perfectly integrated in the philosophy of this event considering that is an important part of the culture.
Additively two other important partners of the conference are the CEA (French organism for nuclear researches) and the Reims University LISM which are respectively responsible of liquid metal technology and Magneto electro chemistry two of the most important topics of pamir.
Finally the organisers have to objective the regrouping of researchers and engineers to favour the applications of the subject of magneto hydrodynamics researches as well as the mixing between confirmed and young scientists.
